Chelation Therapy

Chelation therapy is a chemical process that can remove toxins from the body by binding them to an amino acid so they can be excreted by the body.

This is an accepted treatment for ridding the body of heavy metals or mineral toxins. Alternative medical practitioners use it to treat a wider range of conditions including coronary artery disease. The theory is that the amino acid binds to the calcium in the arterial plaque so it can be excreted in the urine. Chelation therapy is always used as an adjunct to other treatments such as specialized nutritional supplements, exercise, weight normalization and dietary changes.
Doctors started using chelation therapy to detoxify heavy metals in 1948. In 1950, Dr. Norman Clark also found it to be useful in removing plaque in arteries. It can act to reverse the aging process by keeping free radicals in check and slowing cellular destruction, improving oxygenation to the heart and blood vessels, and by transferring excess calcium from the arteries and joints to the bones, thus diminishing osteoporosis.

This treatment is done per IV administration of the amino acid by a physician (MD or DO) who has completed certification it its use. It is not recommended for use in children, pregnant women, or patients with severe renal disease or heart failure.
