Alternative Therapies

The following is a partial listing of Complementary and Alternative Therapies (CAM). I include it here because increasing numbers of people seek to incorporate a more holistic course of treatment along with their allopathic ("regular") medical care. The list contains many of the major therapies which you might encounter when seeking more information. Please understand that the definitions are brief and therefore not to be used as your only source of information. If you seek additional information, please consult a pratitioner for a more indepth understanding. Some entries will be followed by a practitioner's name. These are individuals with whom I personally have experience and a level of trust. They are not the only practitioners in the area, certainly, and I am not recommending that they be your first choice – perhaps they can be a starting point. There is no financial arrangement with them. RN Patient Advocates receives no commission or fee if you should decide to use their services.

  1. All CAM therapies are loosely based on the following principles:
the body has the ability to heal itself

  2. Health and healing are related to a harmony of mind, body and spirit

  3. Basic, good health practices build the foundation for healing

  4. Healing practices are individualized

  5. People are ultimately responsible for their own health and healing and should advocate for themselves – either directly or with assistance

Remember always to check that the practitioner you are consulting is either licensed or certified by the state. Always.
